Following the historic win against Australia at Perth, a number of Indian players have made big gains at the latest ICC Test Rankings.
Jasprit Bumrah Reclaims No. 1 Spot in ICC Test Rankings; Jaiswal and Kohli Shine After Perth Test Victory
India’s triumph over Australia in the World Test Championship series opener at Perth has led to significant movements in the latest ICC Men’s Test rankings. Key performances by Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli have propelled them up the rankings, highlighting India’s dominant position in Test cricket. Here’s a breakdown of the rankings shift after India’s 295-run victory in the Perth Test.
Bumrah Returns to No. 1 in ICC Test Bowler Rankings
Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show, claiming eight wickets during India’s commanding victory, and in doing so, has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings. Bumrah’s career-best rating of 883 points now stands as the highest-ever rating achieved by an Indian fast bowler. This remarkable performance also earned him the Player of the Match award.
His rise to the top saw him leapfrog South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, both of whom have now been overtaken by Bumrah. This is not just a personal achievement for Bumrah but a historic moment for Indian fast bowling, as he becomes the top-ranked bowler in Test cricket once again.
Interestingly, Bumrah’s 883 rating points are just behind the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin (904) and Ravindra Jadeja (899), who are the only two Indian bowlers to have achieved higher rankings, albeit in the spin category. Ashwin and Jadeja maintained their positions within the top 10, with Ashwin rising to 4th and Jadeja dropping one spot to 7th, despite not featuring in the Perth Test.
Jaiswal and Kohli Surge in Batting Rankings
Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been one of the standout performers, scoring a scintillating 161 runs in India’s victory. This knock helped India seize the initiative and also earned Jaiswal a significant jump in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. He climbed two spots to reach No. 2, with a career-best rating of 825 points, just 78 points behind England’s Joe Root, who remains at the top.
Meanwhile, senior batsman Virat Kohli is back in form, having scored his 30th Test century in Perth. Kohli’s century helped India build a substantial lead in the match, and as a result, he has moved up nine spots to No. 13 in the Test Batting Rankings. Kohli’s rise is a strong indication that he continues to be a key player for India in the longest format of the game.
Australia’s Travis Head also enjoyed a jump, moving up three places to No. 10 in the Test Batting Rankings after his knock of 89 in the Perth Test.
Top All-Rounders Maintain Positions
In the Test All-Rounder Rankings, India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have held onto their positions in the top two, despite not playing in the opening Test against Australia. Jadeja remains at No. 2, while Ashwin is ranked No. 1 among all-rounders.
One of the biggest movers in the All-Rounder category has been Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan. The Bangladesh captain’s solid contributions with both bat and ball against the West Indies have seen him climb three spots, moving into joint third place alongside England’s Ben Stokes.
